Garifuna Collective Plays Toronto | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

The Garifuna Collective represented Belize in Canada, again, when they played with Danny Michel at the Panamania concert in Toronto.  Looks like everyone had a great time.

"The shows with the Garifuna Collective were a blast.  Welcome on board Sheldon!.  A great hang with my Belizean brothers again.  Thanks to everyone who made it possible.  Until next time"

Garifuna Collective's Gudemei

The Garifuna Collective have released their Gudemei video, and it is fantastic!  Isn't it time for another Grammy win for the best band in Belize?  It was shot at the Soul Project, and Daniel Velazquez captured all the magic that was going on.  You can tell they had a great time doing it.  It's worth the 4 minutes.

In related news, the Garifuna Collective is touring Canada with Danny Michel, and they are getting great reviews.  Here's an article that says it all.

"In June 2013, Ivan Duran producer at STONETREE records, took over the Belize Soul Project, for a series of project, this was rehearsal for the Garifuna Collective, shoot for music video, photo of Calypso Rose, Aurelio Martinez, Drew Gonsalves, etc, it was great to have all this creativity going on, with live music."

Danny Michel and The Garifuna Collective

Danny Michel is in Belize, playing with the Garifuna Collective.  Here's a musical interlude with them rehearsing with 'This is What is.'  Hopefully they will come over and play in Cayo before they all head to Canada for their tour together.  If you notice, Sam Harris, who plays with the World Culture Band at Lucky 5 and around Cayo, is there on guitar.

They also did 'Break it You Buy it.'

Sad And Beautiful World

The Garifuna Collective and Danny Michel have a new video out for their song entitled 'Sad and Beautiful World.'  Cayo is shown in the video, as is the Xunantunich ferry.  Sam Harris, leader of the World Culture Band, which plays often around Cayo, is a featured musician on the song and in the video.  It's a great song, with a powerful message.

In related news, the Garifuna Collective is getting ready for another Summer tour with Danny Michel.  They're going to show their Grammy award winning, Belizean music to the world.

Belizean Music Influences Danny Michel

Belizean Music Influences Danny Michel | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Danny Michel has his 10th album out, and once again it was inspired by Belizean music.  This time, he recorded with the Garifuna Collective in Benque.  In some of his previous music videos, you can see how he incorporates his visits to Belize into them.

See him on Youtube with the Garifuna Collective: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZUs1KwTd4s

"Black Birds Are Dancing Over Me is a collaboration with Benque Players and the indigenous music of Belize’s Garifuna Collective.  It was recorded and produced at the Stonetree Records studio of Benque Players’ Ivan Duran.  It’s in the creative mode of Simon’s Graceland, the famous 1986 collaboration with South African and New Orleans zydeco musicians.  But Michel’s album is far more personal...  The result is a wonderful blend of Michel’s folk style and Latin rhythms.  He plans to bring Benque Players north in the summer to do folk festivals in Canada."
