The George Price Photography Exhibit will have its opening preview at the Cayo Welcome Center on Tuesday the 16th at 630pm. It will then be on display at the San Ignacio-Santa Elena House of Culture from Wednesday through January 31st.

The George Price Exhibit by Richard Holder, entitled Reflections of a Hero, is now on display in Belmopan at the George Price Centre.  Thanks go out to Belize Natural Energy for sponsoring the event.  For more info, call 822-1054.

The PM has announced that to honor Belize's national heroes, the Western Highway will be renamed George Price Highway.  The Northern Highway will be renamed Philip Goldson Highway.  Great idea!  Happy Independence Day!

"HONORING OUR NATIONAL HEROES: The Rt. Hon. the Prime Minister Mr. Dean has just announced the renaming of the Western and Northern Highways.  The Western Highway is now the George Price Highway.  The Northern Highway is not the Phillip Goldson Highway Way to go our National Heroes."

The Benque House of Culture will be having a tribute to the late George Price tonight in Centennial Park.  There will be a poetry recital, and the winners of the poetry competition will be announced.  Later tonight, they will show the documentary, 'Man of Purpose and Vision.'  After that, they'll have live marimba music.  Happy National Service Day!

"In honor of our Father of our Nation, Belize comes the Tribute to Rt. Hon. George Cadle Price, credits to much of his rich knowledge came from reading, often described as an avid reader of all kinds of books including philosophy, literature, poetry, and religion.  The 19th of September will be observed as National Service Day, and through this we present the winners of the GP poetry competition, and recital, a short film documentary of the life of our Hero, including live marimba music, by " Vos de la Selva" courtesy of our Marimba players under the leadership of Mr. Ernesto Aldana 'Don Beto'."

Belizeans, Schools, Churches, Organizations, get ready for...National Service Day, which is tomorrow.  All Belizeans are invited to carry out a community service activity in memory of the Rt. Hon. George Price, who passed away on September 19 of last year.  There's are 100's of projects going on around Belize.  

In Belmopan:

Clean up campaign of the area around the George Price Centre for Peace and Development, UB and walkways to National Assembly Building.
Clean up of May Gordon Park
Food distribution to the needy
Rehabilitation and clean up of Devon Beaton Park
Participation of 1,000+ students

Excellent tribute to George Price.  David Ruiz chronicles his life.  There are quite a few old pictures shown throughout the video.  

'A Tribute to Fatherhood - God's Plan for the Birthing of a Nation

'Belize 35' is celebrating the 35th anniversary of Belize's independence, and is on display at the Art Museum of the Americas.  It showcases works by Belizean-American artists Karl Villanueva and Santiago Cal.  There's one neat piece with George Price riding a tapir.

"Cal’s 15-foot-long, untitled installation is entirely carved from wood and contains an elevated pathway with a row of 35 tapirs, the piglike national animal of Belize. In the piece, a meditative George Cadle Price is riding the tapir in front."

The Benque House of Culture had a tribute to George Price, along with a poetry recital, and showing of the GP documentary.  Congratulations to all the kids that entered and read their poetry.

A brief biography of George Price.  A fitting article to end National Service Dayo with.  Don Hector Silva tonight remembered him happily, and said that before he passed he came up with an idea for a peaceful revolution to bring justice back to the system.  He'd called it a 'second revolution,'  the first being the gaining of independence 31 years ago.  The comments at the end of the article are great, and you can leave condolences or other comments if you'd like.  

"George Price entered into politics in 1944.  With three days of preparation, he lost his first election.  In 1947 however, he was elected to the Belize City Council and from 1958 to 1962 he was the Mayor of that Capital.  In protest against the devaluation of the British Honduran dollar in 1949, a few citizens, George Price included, formed the People’s Committee.  Here was the start of the Peaceful, Constructive, Belizean Revolution.  It was the forerunner of the Peoples United Party, officially established on September 29, 1950.  6 Years later, George Price was elected Party Leader."
