Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture

Cayo always cleans up at the BTB National Tourism Awards, as the base for Belize's sustainable ecotourism should.  Guava Limb won best restaurant, of course.  Gaia Riverlodge won hotel of the year, while Table Rock Lodge won best small hotel.  The San Ignacio Resort Hotel won for best hospitality, and Miriam Roberson won the Minister's Award.  Caves Branch won for best tour operator.  Congratulations to all the well deserved wins!

The best little zoo in the world received Trip Advisor's Certificate of Excellence.  The Belize Zoo has a menagerie of rescued and rehabilitated animals.  Currently, Happy the Barn Owl has been their ambassador, visiting primary schools around Belize.  Congratulations, Belize Zoo!

In related news, many great spots in Cayo have also received TA's Certificate of Excellence, and many new restaurants in Cayo are on now on TA, including Guava Limb, Express Oh!, D Catch, and Mom's Backyard.

Chaa Creek Inland Expeditions is going to start offering day trips to Chaa Creek for hiking, exploring, canoeing, riding, and cycling.  They all come with lunch, transportation, guides, and complimentary canoes.  They start running on Monday.

Express Oh! Café has rolled out some new treats, and boy do they look yummy.  Cayo has some great coffee shops and cafés to choose from, and a new one, Guava Limb Café, which is opening this Saturday.

The Guava Limb Café had their 1st anniversary party on Saturday, and it was a beautiful event.  The San Pedro Scoop(no relation) came over to see how amazing the best restaurant in Belize celebrated. 

"The dinner menu was a buffet – and a Mayan feast.  Perhaps the guests wouldn’t be here yet but the food was ready right on time.  And look at this menu?  Impressive...  This was no cheese dip and beer fiesta.  Beautiful food, beautifully presented and the drink of the night?  White sangria with fresh cantelope."

The Moroton Community Outreach Committee installed 12 new benches around Macal River park this weekend.  They look great, and are already being used.  You can see them all from the Guava Limb Café.  Future plans include more benches, and a walkway around the entire park.  Thanks, Chaa Creek!

The Guava Limb Cafe is having their launch party today.  They had a little introduction for the Moroton Community Outreach Committee and their neighbors last night since their goal is to work for the betterment of the area.  Great mission statement there.  They overlook the pristine Macal River Park.  Beautiful place, great food, and the best prices around.  Junior photographer Minnelli Zetina was there to get some great shots of last night's event.
