Spelling Bee Cayo Finals | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

The Coca Cola Spelling Bee finals for Cayo, where 14 Cayo students showed off their superb spelling skills, were held this week in Spanish Lookout.  Geon Codd, from St. Andrew's won first place, while Sherman Matute from St. Jude, and Michael Sabido from Shepherd's Academy took second and third.  Thanks, Coca Cola, for making this happen again, and Mr. Jones for getting some great shots.  Congratulations to all the bright students!

Rotary Club Helps Two Cayo Schools

Rotary Club Helps Two Cayo Schools | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

The Rotary Club of San Ignacio has just started two new school infrastructure projects here in Cayo.  They are building bathrooms for Eden SDA Primary School and St. Andrews Anglican School.  Thanks, Rotary!

"The schools will receive modern flush toilets in adequate numbers that are also accessible by wheelchairs.  The building plans are based on a standard model that is recommended by the Ministry of Education which was also instrumental in selecting the schools.  The buildings will even be equipped with fresh water storage tanks in case of interrupted public water supply.  The goal of these two projects is not only to provide the kids with decent bathrooms.  In each school the whole measure will be embedded in the health education curriculum that teaches personal hygiene among others."

Feelgood news of the day.  Thanks, Rotary, for doing so much for the Cayo community!

"On the last two weekends members of the Rotary Club of San Ignacio as well as teachers, parents and other volonteers painted the two brand new bathroom facilities at Eden SDA Primary School and St. Andrews Anglican School that are about to be finished very soon.  These modern toilet blocks will serve approximately 900 students and were built with the generous funding of Canadian Rotarians, the Rotary Foundation and with local contributions.  The projects have a total volume of almost 110.000 BZ$ and are managed by the Rotary Club of San Ignacio.  The two structures are numbers 6 and 7 in a row of bathrooms that were built for Cayo schools during the last years."
