Xunantunich Ferry Review

Xunantunich Ferry Review | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Funny news of the day.  It seems like there are some minor design flaws in the new Xunantunich ferry.  4 vehicles can fit on it though.

"So as I was crossing the ferry with a 2012 Toyota High Roof Hi Ace van the lip of the van scratched the ferry and as I made my way into it the butt of the van scratched on the pavement of the hill.  We, me and the other van merely crossed the river.  On the other side is also another matter I directed the other van to move first and he did.  As it was moving off the back tires pushed the ferry away form the bank. the ferry man cranked it back to the edge and I was then given the go ahead to cross."

Canoeing through Barton Creek Cave

Canoeing through Barton Creek Cave | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Barton Creek Cave gets another great write up, this time in escapingabroad.com.  They uploaded a cool video of entering the cave too.

"We were suited up with safety helmets, lights and life jackets and began are journey into the darkness.  This cave is considered one of the largest in the world, estimated to be over 4 and a half miles long and in some places 100 feet tall. It is also filled with a rich and mysterious history as it was used by the Mayans who believed caves to be entrances into the ‘underworld.’  Evidence of Mayan use was left behind in artifacts and the remains of at least 28 discovered bodies inside."

Cayo Review and Pictures

Cayo Review and Pictures | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Great photos from around Cayo can be seen on this review.  Where exactly they stayed, we're not sure, but they loved it, and it is beautiful.

"The first two days we stayed in the jungle near San Ignacio in the most darling little cabin
and the second part of the trip we took a water taxi to Ambergris Caye and lounged on the little island.  It was a lovely trip.  We spent hours laying in hammocks, and took afternoon naps during the most delirious of rainstorms.  We went jungle hiking, and climbed old mayan ruins from civilizations hundreds and hundreds of years old.  We saw monkeys and wandered islands, holding hands like newlyweds."
