Belize Zoo on CCTV News

Belize Zoo on CCTV News | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

CCTV went to the Belize Zoo to interview Sharon Matola, and to see the wildlife at the best little zoo in the world.  Lucky Boy, along with many other animals at the zoo, are featured.

"Here visitors get just that with mammals and reptiles that have sometimes encountered difficulties when mixing with their human neighbours.  The Belize zoo has the world’s only program designed to help problematic jaguars, like Field Master.  Out in the wild, he had trouble finding food. So he started eating dogs.  He’s one of 13 endangered jaguars now living here, under the care of zoo director Sharon Matola."

Lucky Boy's Happy Update

Lucky Boy's Happy Update | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

Lucky Boy, the rescued jaguar, is doing fine at the Belize Zoo.  Sharon Matola has released an update on him.

"Lucky Boy, our recently rescued black jaguar, has settled well in his new home off exhibit at The Belize Zoo. Always eager for his dinner, the guy is clueless about how happy he is making all of his zoo caretakers with such an enthusiastic appetite.  Not that we expected Lucky Boy to turn up his big nose at beef liver, but our consulting vet made a point in stating that some large cats are less-than-happy about eating the critical care canned feline food, which was brought in special for our Lucky Boy.  Well, Lucky Boy simply loves the gooey mixture, and happily gives a jaguar 'high five' whenever it comes his way."

Lucky Boy Rocks

Lucky Boy Rocks | Cayo Scoop! The Ecology of Cayo Culture | Scoop.it

The rescued jaguar, now named 'Lucky Boy,' is doing fine on his 13th day of recovery at the Belize Zoo.  He even has his own song, Lucky Boy Rocks, written by Sharon Matola herself, and she sings it to him.  There is a fundraising campaign on indiegogo to raise $15,000 to help with his veterinary care, since the zoo is funded solely by donations.  Help out if you can.
