Voxy - Learn a language from life

Voxy - Learn a language from life | Commercial Software and Apps for Learning | Scoop.it

We don’t believe learning should be based on static content, memorizing verb charts, grammar rules, or learning vocabulary words out of context. That’s why we create engaging exercises with authentic language used by native speakers. We don't write lessons for you, we curate real-world discourse and turn it into lessons adapted to your language level.

Nik Peachey's insight:

Voxy looks like a really great all round product to get students listening, reading and speaking. You can access it through any device, but the mobile app looks really great and it's one of the first I've seen that really seems to be drawing on the multimedia capabilities of mobile and tablet devices for language learning.

Intel® XDK

Intel® XDK | Commercial Software and Apps for Learning | Scoop.it

On September, 10, 2013, we released the Intel® XDK NEW, our initial release of a new version of the Intel® XDK. I want to let you know why we did this. As you probably know, Intel acquired the appMobi* HTML5 development tools last February, which included the then appMobi* XDK and Dev Center (the build service.) We re-launched it as the Intel® XDK shortly thereafter.

Nik Peachey's insight:

This looks like a very cool free tool for developing your own croosplatform mobile apps. Not sure yet how tricky it is to learn, but could be worth investing some time in. The apps it develops are based on HTML5 and other cross platform technologies rather than being native to one particular platform.

Class Charts - seating plans and behavior management software

Class Charts - seating plans and behavior management software | Commercial Software and Apps for Learning | Scoop.it

Seating charts are an essential part of any good teacher’s tool kit. They help organise students into appropriate learning groups and minimise behaviour issues – the class teacher asserts their authority before the lesson even begins. We take seating charts a step further. You can optionally include and display key data (eg SEN, reading age) about each pupil which is used to intelligently position pupils in the classroom to maximise learning.

Begoña Iturgaitz's curator insight, January 10, 2014 7:06 AM

As I  expect positive behaviour and engagement from my students,  I find it pretty useless. However,  it may be greatly interesting for keeping records on, for instance,  learning to learn sklills or procedures; for mastering processes.....etc.

Gary Harwell's curator insight, January 12, 2014 3:17 AM

This could be another good tool for Class Administration

Raul Alanis Jr's curator insight, February 6, 2014 4:11 PM

So easy to create seating charts by using this tool straight from Edmodo

Are iPads and tablets bad for young children?

Are iPads and tablets bad for young children? | Commercial Software and Apps for Learning | Scoop.it

Flewitt thinks that to deny children access to tablets is to "risk having one section of society that is growing up with skills and one section that is growing up without. You might think that it doesn't matter because they will develop those skills later. But it's not the same. They won't identify with it. It's not part of who they are … Children have been born into a world where these things exist," she says, "like we were born into a world where there were televisions, cars on the streets and packaging on food."
