Leona: This may indeed infringe on a basic consumer right - the rigth to choose, for instance, choosing a supplier. If products or brands are very similar, consumers may find it difficult to distinguish among them (which opens up the possibility of consumers being deceived).  As suggested in the article, consumers will specifically choose products manufactured by Apple, and it is unlikely that they will be confused in this case.

Turning Pins Into Purchase on Pinterest

Turning Pins Into Purchase on Pinterest | consumer psychology | Scoop.it
A new crop of companies isn’t waiting for the site to decide how to help brands use its data...

Leona:

Pinterest is a growing source of online referrals (online word-of-mouth). Experts, visionaries, and creative people, amongst others, use this platform to collect and distribute content that they find of interest. Most brands would be interested in identifying their top influencers on Pinterest and then match that information with Facebook and Twitter data “to map the path from pin to purchase”. Companies like Pinerly and Viralheat provide in this need.

Leona: This may require some thinking, but it may make tertiary education more transparent. Presenting a completely clear crystal ball of each student’s future at a particular institution, would of course not be possible, because it also depends on the commitments that the student makes. Informing students in advance what they can expect and doing this according to certain standards indeed reflects an awareness of the trend that students are consumers/the customers of a particular institution.
