Virtual reality warps your sense of time: Psychology research demonstrates unique 'time compression' effect of VR

Psychology researchers found that playing games in virtual reality creates an effect called 'time compression,' where time goes by faster than you think. The research team compared time perception during gameplay using conventional monitors and virtual reality to determine that this effect is uniquely linked to the virtual reality format.

Virtual reality is a natural next step in remote learning

Virtual reality is a natural next step in remote learning | Educational Technology News | Scoop.it
Virtual reality introduces students to hands-on learning experiences, which can help boost remote learning retention.
Erika Geraldyne Cardenas Urrego's curator insight, September 26, 2020 1:16 AM
In a world full of innovation and technology, educators must take advantage of them for their classes. For this reason, I started to read this article. I was extremely surprised by this topic: educators would use virtual reality (VR) to change the ways of traditional teaching. This VR allows active learning since students have a better understanding and retention using it.

The VR is the computer simulation that allows people to interact in a physical way using special technological equipment. According to a study described by Ennin Huang in this article, the rate of retention is 80% of learning. It happens because the VR allows students to learn through the experience. They could interact with environments that they usually cannot; for example, they could learn about other countries traveling in the virtual world. Finally, this immersion is significant to the educator due to the fact that they can use it as a tool to engage students on the topic that they teach; also, students are safer in VR environments.

VR starts to prove its worth as a training tool

VR starts to prove its worth as a training tool | Educational Technology News | Scoop.it

"Virtual reality (VR) promised to be a world-changing technology, but so far it hasn't really lived up to the hype Sales of VR headsets are underwhelming and investment in the technology is in decline. One of the main challenges with VR adoption is encouraging digital sceptics, often in commissioning roles, to embrace the technology and avoid seeing it as a gimmick."

How Students Can Use VR to Explore Career Pathways

How Students Can Use VR to Explore Career Pathways | Educational Technology News | Scoop.it

"With nearly 70% of Americans feeling less than satisfied with their career choices, it’s no wonder that analysis paralysis can prevent high school and university students from deciding on the career path that’s right for them. Students who don’t understand what’s involved in a chosen career may find themselves in the group of Americans disillusioned with their jobs and careers. Wouldn’t it be better if an aspiring doctor discovered sooner than later that their real passion consisted of cutting-edge research rather than working with patients?"

Virtual Reality & Training: Why immersive environments create greater engagement

Virtual Reality & Training: Why immersive environments create greater engagement | Educational Technology News | Scoop.it

The immersive sensory experiences made possible by virtual reality are showing huge promise in learning, training and development applications. Lucie Hammond of immersive learning developer BeingVR explains why.

From schooling astronauts to designing buildings and videogaming, virtual reality (VR) has come a long way since the development of the earliest headsets took place back in the 1960s. That’s a phenomenon that is only set to accelerate this decade as VR technology becomes ever more affordable, widespread and powerful.

But what is the potential of VR for learning new skills?

The Unseen Value of VR Data

The Unseen Value of VR Data | Educational Technology News | Scoop.it

Despite being in the public domain for decades, VR has struggled to shed its reputation as a consumer gaming tool. Until recently, the use of VR in the corporate world has been relatively limited. Now, however, businesses are recognising its potential, and VR technology is beginning to reshape workplaces and workforces.  One of the most powerful commercial uses of VR is in employee training. The benefits that VR brings to gaming — immersion, engagement — are also hugely beneficial in a training context."
