Food Science plays an important role in lots of food manufacture just that up until recently consumers have been completely ignorant of the process things go through. It seems to be a very thin line between those that know science is a good thing as it allows for product improvement in all aspects or those that think everything science related is bad as it could only mean "chemicals" that will cause illness in the long term.
