How Virgin Galactic Plans to Open Space Travel to the Masses

How Virgin Galactic Plans to Open Space Travel to the Masses | Good news from the Stars | Scoop.it
While the original price point of VirginGalactic won't be cheap, it's interesting to see the ambition of the company above and beyond early adopters. They're not shooting for just a small club of millionaires. That's hundreds or thousands of people the eventually want to experience space travel on a regular basis.

Interesting recap from Ben Parr

'Invisible' world discovered !

'Invisible' world discovered ! | Good news from the Stars | Scoop.it
Usually, running five minutes late is a bad thing since you might lose your dinner reservation or miss out on tickets to the latest show.

But when a planet alternately runs late and early in its orbit, it might be just that another world is nearby.

Will "Intelligence" Prove to Be Common in the Universe? | Good news from the Stars | Scoop.it

Fascinating article on what other intelligence forms might be like. Looking at it from a physicist or a biologist point of view is not the same. And looking at "Planet of the Apes" as a proxy might be... well... surprising!

Mars Rover’s Discovery Excites NASA Scientists

Mars Rover’s Discovery Excites NASA Scientists | Good news from the Stars | Scoop.it
"The first rock a NASA rover looked at when it arrived at a crater on Mars was unlike any looked at on the planet before, scientists said."

But the other news is how long this rover has last: landed in 2004, it was designed to last much much less than the 7 years it has survived.

Well done Wall-E !!!! ;-)

Joke? Bad SF movie script? No. NASA-affiliated scientist warning: Aliens may destroy humanity to protect other civilisations, say scientists | Good news from the Stars | Scoop.it
Rising greenhouse emissions could tip off aliens that we are a rapidly expanding threat, warns a report... I hesitated before publishing that article from the Guardian as the subject is really too much speculative to me. But I ended up thinking this was interesting to share anyway. With warnings. This report looks to me like a drunken-geek discussion on the outcome of a potential alien first encounter but hey, it's probably cool to some to realize that some scientists end up with the same conclusions while sober.

Company reveals plans for space hotel

Company reveals plans for space hotel | Good news from the Stars | Scoop.it
Russian company Orbital Technologies unveiled plans this week for a hotel in space that could cost visitors about stg£100,000 for a five-day stay. That's in addition to the stg£250,000 cost to get there.

Founding still needs to be secured for the project but I love the idea... though I'll probably wait for a [HUGE] lastminute.com discount given the price tag...
