How to Educate Yourself For the Future - InformED

How to Educate Yourself For the Future - InformED | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it
Here’s a scenario that will set your head spinning: In less time than it takes for a student to go through K-12 schooling, Uber created and eliminated an entire job market. The ride-hailing industry leader started in 2009, created thousands of jobs across the country, and is now introducing self-driving cars that will replace those jobs. In fact, a recent report from the Committee for Economic Development of Australia (CEDA) showed that 40 per cent of jobs are in danger of becoming obsolete. This phenomenon is called the Law of Accelerating Change, and it’s not going to slow down any time soon. The only thing we can do to prepare for such change is to learn how to adapt to, better yet anticipate, it.

Beyond MOOCs: The Future of Learning on the Future Internet | Open Education Working Group

Beyond MOOCs: The Future of Learning on the Future Internet | Open Education Working Group | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it

The session attempted to unpack the following ideas:

Following from MOOCs what are the future learning paradigms now emerging or currently on the horizon (from a pedagogical, educational and business perspective)?

What are the personal, social and economic benefits that these new learning forms will bring to Europe?

What requirements do these new learning frameworks impose on the next generation Internet (from a network, services/cloud, media, security, mobile perspective)?

How will we meet these requirements?

To what extent will our current Future Internet activities meet the requirements?

Is there anything we need to initiate?

Yes – There is a National EdTech Plan | Blended Librarian | Information and digital literacy in education via the digital path | Scoop.it

Were you aware that our nation has an educational technology plan?

Perhaps you feel safer and more secure just knowing that the government has an educational technology plan.

Facetiousness aside, this is a report worth reading even if it mostly focuses on K-12. The 2016 plan is titled Future Ready Learning: Re-imagining the Role of Technology in Education. [http://tech.ed.gov/files/2015/12/NETP16.pdf ]and it is:

the flagship educational technology policy document for the United States. The 2016 Plan articulates a vision of equity, active use, and collaborative leadership to make everywhere, all-the-time learning possible. While acknowledging the continuing need to provide greater equity of access to technology itself, the plan goes further to call upon all involved in American education to ensure equity of access to transformational learning experiences enabled by technology.
